2-Alarm fire in Wadsworth, IL 7-4-15

The Newport Township Fire Department responded to a serious house fire at 38800 Red Oak Terrace in Wadsworth this afternoon, escalating the call to a second alarm. Firefighters arrived quickly and worked diligently to contain the blaze, which appeared to be spreading rapidly through the structure. The scene was chaotic, with multiple fire engines and water tenders deployed to tackle the flames. Photos from the incident, captured by Larry Shapiro, show firefighters in action, including one carrying a ladder, another using a saw to cut into the roof, and a female firefighter on a ladder with a hose. Additional images highlight the efforts of the Mack Saulsbury heavy rescue squad, as well as the long lay of large diameter hose used to supply water to the fire. Firefighters were seen retrieving musical instruments from the damaged home, underscoring the personal impact of the fire. Water tenders were staged on-site, and one engine was seen drafting from a portable tank to maintain a steady water supply.
