On April 11th, the Pilot Township Fire Department (Herscher Fire) received a call for a structure fire. Just moments before the alarm was triggered, a cigarette was carelessly discarded near an open propane canister, causing a sudden explosion that spread to a nearby home and fence. The incident brought multiple fire departments to the scene, including Herscher Fire, Limestone Township Fire, Salina Township Fire, Essex Fire Department, and the Reddick Community Fire Department.

The fire caused significant damage, but no injuries were reported. Emergency responders worked quickly to contain the flames and prevent further spread. Local residents were advised to stay clear of the area while investigations continued. This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of improper disposal of smoking materials, especially around flammable substances like propane. If you're in an area with such hazards, always be cautious and responsible.
