Here's a report from Central Illinois Fire Photography:
On April 11th, the Pilot Township Fire Department (Herscher Fire) was called to respond to a structure fire. Just moments before the alarm went off, a cigarette was carelessly discarded near an open propane canister, which led to a sudden explosion. The blast caused significant damage to a nearby home and a fence. Multiple fire departments were dispatched to the scene, including Herscher Fire, Limestone Township Fire, Salina Township Fire, Essex Fire Department, and the Reddick Community Fire Department.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of how dangerous it can be to handle flammable materials without proper care. The quick response from all involved agencies helped prevent further damage and ensured the safety of those in the area. While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, early reports suggest that human error played a major role in this avoidable accident.
