Building fire in Chicago 4-21-13

This is from Erik Haak:

At 09:20 AM on Sunday morning, Engine 62 responded to a working fire at 11259 S. Michigan Avenue. Battalion 22 later reported that the fire originated in the basement and spread upward through the second floor and into the cockloft of a two-story apartment building situated above commercial space. Truck 62 was assigned as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). All images were captured by Erik Haak.

The scene was chaotic but well-managed, with crews working quickly to contain the flames before they could spread further. It’s always impressive to see how the Chicago Fire Department responds under pressure. I was just a few blocks away when it happened, so I got a good view of the action. The photos give a sense of the intensity and the professionalism of the crews involved. Thanks for checking this out — more updates to come.
