With the ISOMETER® iso685 series, Bender offers a cutting-edge range of insulation monitoring devices that combine advanced reliability, precise measurement techniques, user-friendly design, and modern functionality. These devices are specifically designed to monitor insulation resistance to earth in ungrounded systems (IT systems), and they alert users when the resistance drops below a predefined threshold. Thanks to automatic insulation fault locators—capable of operating during normal system operation—it is now easier than ever to identify insulation faults in large and complex IT networks. This significantly reduces downtime and enhances overall system availability.
The **iso685-D-P** model supports insulation fault location and works seamlessly with the ISOSCAN® EDS440 and EDS441 fault locators via an RS-485 sensor bus or top-hat rail bus. In coupled systems, the **iso685-D-P** can also be used effectively, thanks to the **EDSsync function**. This feature ensures that all iso685-D-P devices in a group, as well as any connected EDS units, participate in fault location. The EDSsync function operates independently of whether the insulation monitoring is handled through ISOnet or by disabling a digital input.
In the example shown in Figure 1, the right iso685-D-P is automatically deactivated via an auxiliary contact in the coupling switch once the two systems are connected. However, if either device detects an insulation fault, it switches to fault location mode. With EDSsync enabled, fault detection occurs simultaneously on both sides of the coupling switch, even if one device is inactive due to the closed coupling switch.
The **IOM441 input/output module** allows up to 50 EDS units to be connected to a single iso685-D-P. When paired with the IOM441, each EDS44x channel can provide a dry contact, enabling alerts to be generated or non-critical loads to be disconnected. This helps maintain high availability for critical loads within the IT system.
New measurement technologies allow the iso685-D-P to detect high-impedance faults, even in systems with large leakage capacitances and low locating currents. Faulty channels are clearly displayed on the device’s screen, and plain text messages are used to simplify troubleshooting and fault localization.
The iso685-D-P supports multiple communication protocols, including Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, and isoData. This flexibility ensures seamless integration into existing control and monitoring systems, making it a versatile solution for modern industrial environments.
