Here's a firsthand account from Steve Redick:
I witnessed an unusual incident yesterday on the outbound JFK Expressway near Kimball. A semi-truck collided with a retaining wall and veered off the elevated roadway. The truck’s cab separated from the chassis, which remained hanging over the lower level of the highway before crashing onto the street below. The driver was reportedly trapped, with both parts of the wreckage engulfed in flames.
By the time I arrived, the driver had already been extracted and was on his way to the hospital. According to reports, he wasn’t pinned but was seriously injured. I observed part of the recovery efforts, including the work of a large IDOT wrecker and some operations by the Lin-Mar towing company. A hazmat team was also on scene due to fuel and fluid leaks from both the upper and lower sections of the crash site.
