**Abstract:** This paper presents the successful implementation of a DN1200 YX741X-10 diaphragm-type pressure-reducing valve manufactured by Zhuzhou South Valve Manufacturing Co., Ltd. at the Guangxi Yulin Chengbei Water Treatment Plant. Prior to the pipeline renovation, the system faced significant safety risks due to high-pressure pipelines that posed threats to the surrounding environment. The installation of this new adjustable pressure-reducing valve has ensured over a year of safe and stable operation, with consistent and reliable pressure regulation. Key features include automatic pressure tracking, diaphragm-based control, and minimal maintenance requirements.

**Description:** The Yulin City North Waterworks in Guangxi was established in April 2000 with a daily production capacity of 100,000 units. The water is sourced from the Su Smoke Reservoir, located 15.2 km away from the plant. The main conveyance pipes consist of DN1200 prestressed concrete and GRP pipes. The vertical height difference between the reservoir and the plant is 52 meters (up to 61 meters during peak periods). A DN1200 gate valve and a DN800 butterfly valve were installed near the sedimentation tank, but no other valves were placed along the pipeline. This configuration led to high-pressure conditions throughout the entire pipeline, posing serious safety risks.
Due to the long length of the pipeline, which runs through farmland, regular maintenance and management were difficult. In case of an accident, the consequences could be catastrophic. Two technical solutions were considered: installing a surge tank or using a pressure-reducing valve. The surge tank option was discarded due to its large land requirement, high cost, and potential for secondary water pollution. Instead, the pressure-reducing valve was chosen for its compact design, quick installation, and effectiveness in solving the safety issue.
After extensive market research and evaluation, the DN1200 YX741X-10 diaphragm-type pressure-reducing valve was selected as the best solution. It was installed in two stages along the pipeline—5 km and 11.7 km from the reservoir. Each stage included manual butterfly valves for maintenance and a vent valve to prevent overpressure. The system operates without external power, relying on hydraulic feedback to maintain stable outlet pressure.
The first-stage valve reduced the pressure from 0.4–0.45 MPa to 0.2 MPa, while the second stage further lowered it to 0.1 MPa. Both stages showed stable pressure with no fluctuations, even under varying flow conditions. The valve automatically adjusted its opening based on inlet pressure changes, ensuring consistent performance. After more than a year of operation, the system has shown excellent reliability, requiring no maintenance and demonstrating superior performance.
**Purpose, Structure, and Working Principle of the New Adjustable Pressure-Relief Valve:**
This valve is designed to reduce upstream pressure to a constant downstream level, regardless of flow or inlet pressure variations. It consists of a main valve, a pressure feedback system, and control piping. The main valve includes a diaphragm, valve plate, and stem, while the pilot valve controls the pressure adjustment. The system uses hydraulic principles to maintain stable outlet pressure, eliminating the need for electrical control.
Key technical parameters include a nominal pressure of 1.0 MPa, an adjustable outlet pressure range of 0.1–0.8 MPa, and suitability for raw water and clean water. The valve offers continuous adjustment, easy maintenance, and a large bore size, making it ideal for large-scale applications.
**Conclusion:**
In April 2002, the DN1200 YX741X-10 pressure-reducing valve was successfully implemented in the Yulin City North Waterworks. Following a smooth commissioning process, the system has operated safely and reliably for over a year. It has proven to be efficient, low-maintenance, and highly effective in managing pressure across long-distance pipelines. Its advantages make it suitable for various industries, including urban water supply, fire protection, petrochemicals, and agriculture. This innovative valve represents a significant step toward safer and more automated water distribution systems.
