Blue Island Fire Department Museum

From the Blue Island Historical Society Facebook page, I came across this exciting update. The new Fire Department Museum will be located just across the street from the fire station on Vermont Street. It's a great project, and I encourage everyone to check it out and share their thoughts. Mike Summa The Blue Island Fire Department Museum was first imagined by local resident Joe Dinovo and is now being brought to life with support from the City of Blue Island, the O’Callaghan family, the Blue Island Historical Society, and many other volunteers and donors. The goal is to educate the public about the history of our fire department, as well as promote fire safety and prevention. One of the most impressive pieces in the museum will be "Old Bess," a 1925 Seagrave fire engine that was originally purchased brand-new by the city of Blue Island. This historic vehicle will serve as a centerpiece for the museum. The preliminary design was created by Ken Jellema, a local artist and designer who has also contributed to other community projects. While the final design may undergo some changes before construction begins, the current vision is already very exciting. These kinds of projects take time—years, even—but with the strong community support that Blue Island is known for, we’re confident that this dream will soon become a reality. If you're interested in helping bring these initiatives to life, consider becoming a member of the Blue Island Historical Society. Your support makes a real difference.
