The Blue Island Fire Department Museum was first imagined by local resident Joe Dinovo and is now being supported by the City of Blue Island, the O’Callaghan family, the Blue Island Historical Society, and many other volunteers and donors. Its goal is to educate the public about the history of our fire department, as well as fire safety and prevention. One of the most impressive pieces in the collection will be "Old Bess," a 1925 Seagrave fire engine that was originally purchased brand-new by the city of Blue Island.
The rendering below, created by Ken Jellema of Blue Island, gives a great visual of what the museum might look like. While the design may still evolve slightly before construction begins, we’re thrilled with how far we’ve come so far!
These kinds of projects take time—years, even—but with the strong community support we've always had, we're confident that this dream will soon become a reality.
