CFD updates

Early one recent morning, a 2-alarm fire broke out on Chicago's south side. Although it didn’t yield the kind of photo opportunities I had hoped for, it still provided an opportunity to document some of the firefighting resources deployed to the scene. All the photos were taken at night, so they'll eventually be replaced with daytime shots when possible. In the meantime, though, these images allow me to introduce several new units to this site. One of the highlights is Engine 32’s brand-new 2009 Spartan Crimson engine, which recently entered service. It’s one of six such engines that have been added to the fleet, and seeing them in action was a great chance to update my records. In addition to Engine 32, I’ve also managed to capture Light Wagon 9-1-5, Engine 34, Hose Wagon 6-1-1, and Battalion 21. These updates reflect the dynamic nature of firefighting operations in the city, where new equipment is constantly being introduced to enhance response capabilities. Looking ahead, I’m excited to share that Engine 64 and Ambulance 27, along with Engine 88, 4-5-5, Engine 101, Truck 41, Engine 129, Truck 50, Engine 15, Battalion 20, and Ambulance 18, will soon join the list of documented units. These additions come directly from the fire scene, providing valuable insights into the evolving composition of Chicago’s fire department. While the current photos may lack the vibrancy of daylight, they serve as a temporary placeholder until better conditions allow for higher-quality captures. For now, they offer a glimpse into the diverse range of vehicles and personnel working tirelessly to protect our community. It’s always fascinating to see how each unit plays its part in maintaining public safety, and I look forward to updating these entries as more information becomes available.
