At around 11:45 a.m. on February 2, 2018, emergency responders from the Wheeling Fire Department and Police were dispatched to Lake-Cook Road near Hastings Lane following reports of a rollover accident involving vehicle entrapment. Upon arrival, first responders found all occupants safely outside their vehicles, leading to the cancellation of the extrication effort. Two individuals were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, while a third person was unharmed and did not require medical attention.
The scene quickly became a coordinated effort between multiple emergency units, including fire engines, ambulances, and tow trucks. Local photographer Larry Shapiro captured several images of the incident, showing the response in action. One photo highlights a Rosenbauer Commander fire engine at the scene, while another shows a Wheeling FD ambulance parked nearby. A Jeep SUV was seen flipped onto its side, with a tow truck working to right it. Additional photos depict police officers directing traffic and other fire department vehicles arriving on the scene.
Despite the initial concern, no serious injuries were reported, and the situation was managed efficiently by the responding agencies. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of quick and well-coordinated emergency responses in ensuring public safety.
