Around 5:00 AM on Thursday, January 5th, I captured these images from the scene of what was described as a pallet yard located at 48th and Morgan Streets. Initially, it appeared from the street level to be nothing more than a disorganized pile of debris, though it did contain several stacked pallets. However, Engine 50 had managed to position themselves within the confines of the yard, which wasn’t clearly visible from the road.
The area was chaotic but fascinating to observe under such conditions. Firefighters were working diligently amidst the darkness, their lights cutting through the dense smoke that billowed around them. It was a challenging situation, given how unpredictable fires can be in environments filled with combustible materials like those found in a pallet yard.
Here’s a closer look at some of the visuals I managed to snap:

These photos offer just a glimpse into the dedication and skill required by firefighters when dealing with incidents like this one. Each image tells its own story about the efforts made to protect both property and lives in the face of adversity.
