It's been an intense day here in Chicago, and I just got back from responding to a fire in the 14th Battalion. It happened on West 25th Street near 29th Avenue. When I arrived, there was already quite a commotion—firefighters from Engine 109, Engine 23, and Engine 107 were already on the scene, their hoses deployed and water flowing to tackle the flames.
The building involved was a three-story structure made of lightweight materials, and unfortunately, it had fire spreading on both the second and third floors. Initially, the firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, but due to the severity and spread of the fire, they had to switch tactics and go defensive for a short period. I got there roughly 15 minutes after the initial call came in, so I caught the tail end of the action.
The images you see here really capture the intensity of the situation. You can see the E-One tower ladder truck in action, its massive reach reaching toward the burning upper floors. There’s something humbling about witnessing such coordinated efforts in the face of chaos.
I snapped some photos while I was there, and I’ve included them below. The firefighters did an incredible job under challenging conditions. Even though the fire was tough to contain, they managed to keep it from spreading further. I’m grateful for their dedication and bravery.
Here’s hoping everyone involved is safe and that the community can begin to recover from this incident. If you'd like to see more photos or updates, feel free to check out the gallery I've put together. Stay safe out there!
