It is with deep sadness that the Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue Department announces the passing of Danny Gonzalez, a 13-year veteran firefighter and paramedic who served with dedication and honor. Danny passed away on August 1, 2013, at the age of 49, leaving behind a legacy of service, leadership, and compassion.
Danny began his career in the fire service in 1987 with the South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District before joining the Lake Zurich Fire/Rescue Department in August 2000. Throughout his time with us, he was an active member of the Training and Safety Committee, where he shared his expertise by mentoring both new and experienced firefighters in fire science and technical rescue operations. His passion for safety and education made him a valuable asset to the department.
In addition to his work in Lake Zurich, Danny was also a dedicated member of IAFF Local 3191, serving as its past president. He was known for his strong leadership and commitment to the well-being of his fellow firefighters. Danny’s dedication extended beyond the firehouse—he was a proud member of the Kane County Sheriff’s Police Correctional Division and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, continuing to serve his community in various capacities.
Danny was not only a hero in uniform but also a beloved husband, father, and friend. His kindness, humor, and unwavering sense of duty touched the lives of many. Those who knew him remember his warm personality and the respect he earned from everyone he met.
A wake will be held at Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A fire department line-up will take place at 6:30 PM, followed by a walk-thru at 7:00 PM. The funeral services will be held at Saint Laurence Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, starting with visitation at 9:15 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery on the same day, with no formal procession expected.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Danny's memory to the Lake Zurich Firefighters’ Charitable Foundation or to a local veterans’ organization. His life and service will be remembered with deep gratitude and lasting respect.
