The Wheeling Fire Department responded to a fire on the roof of a largely vacant, one-story strip mall located at 1786 W. Hintz Road on Sunday morning, May 10th, 2015, just after 9:00 AM. As units approached the scene, they could already see a dark smoke plume rising from the rear of the building. The fire was confined to the roof area, and crews quickly mobilized to contain it.
Buffalo Grove Tower 25 positioned themselves in the alley and deployed their master stream to attack the fire, while Wheeling firefighters used a 2.5-inch line from the roof. The affected area was approximately 20 square feet, indicating a relatively small but potentially dangerous fire due to its location.
