2008 Soil Testing Formula Fertilizer Special Issue 2

Special Issue 2: Soil Testing and Fertilizer Formula in 2008

— The Second Phase of the National Soil Testing and Fertilizer Application Program Statistics Training Held in Beijing

On February 26, a second national training session on soil testing and fertilizer formulation was successfully organized in Beijing by our company in collaboration with the National Agricultural Technology Extension Service Center. Representatives from agricultural technology stations (centers), as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, across provinces, autonomous regions, and cities under separate planning, attended the event. This initiative aimed to enhance the technical capabilities and understanding of statistical staff involved in soil testing and fertilizer application programs.

The training sessions focused on improving the awareness and responsibility of statistical personnel. Participants gained a clear understanding of the requirements for summarizing, reviewing, and reporting progress data. They also learned about key precautions and how to effectively use the progress statistical management system. As a result, the training met its intended goals and laid a solid foundation for future work.

Following the training, the Ministry of Agriculture’s Soil Testing and Formula Fertilization Working Office issued specific instructions to improve the accuracy and efficiency of progress monitoring. These included establishing a working mechanism, setting strict deadlines, strengthening training, and ensuring sufficient resources. The goal is to ensure that all data collected is reliable, timely, and accurate, supporting better decision-making in agricultural practices.

First, a structured working mechanism must be established. Each province or county should assign a dedicated technical officer responsible for overseeing the accuracy and reliability of data. In addition, an evaluation system should be put in place to regularly review and report progress.

Second, strict adherence to reporting deadlines is required. All provinces, cities, and districts must submit quarterly reports to our department by March 15, May 15, September 15, November 15, and January 15 of the following year. This ensures consistent and timely data flow.

Third, ongoing technical training is essential. Local governments are encouraged to conduct regular training sessions for county-level statisticians. Emphasis should be placed on understanding the definitions of statistical indicators, correct data units, reporting standards, and system operations. This will help improve both the quality and speed of data submission.

Fourth, work support must be provided. Provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities are urged to equip their statistical teams with necessary tools such as computers, printers, and stable internet access. By leveraging modern technology, they can significantly enhance the efficiency and accuracy of their statistical work. Additionally, financial resources must be secured to ensure smooth implementation of all activities.
