HANWANG NEWS (Reporter Deng Yanwu, Intern Zhou Liangjun) — "The key to the development of Hubei's automotive industry lies in enhancing the independent innovation capabilities of enterprises," said Zhang Xiaoyu, Vice President of the China Federation of Machinery Industry and Chairman of the China Association of Automobile Engineering, at yesterday's Hubei Automotive Industry Development Forum. The event brought together industry leaders, experts, and policymakers to discuss national automotive policies and strategies for promoting sustainable and rapid growth in Hubei's auto sector.
Currently, Hubei's automotive industry has established two major clusters of parts manufacturing: one stretching from Shiyan and Xiangfan through Wuhan, Yichang, and Jingzhou, and another along the Yangtze River from Hanjiang to Huangshi. These regions benefit from strong industrial agglomeration and well-established supply chains, providing a solid foundation for further development.
In response to both opportunities and challenges, Guo Konghui, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Jilin University, emphasized that the growth of China's own automotive brands is essential for long-term innovation. He urged companies to pursue win-win cooperation with both domestic and international partners, rather than relying solely on external support. The goal, he said, should be to build competitive, independent brands with core technologies, ultimately entering a cycle of sustainable and self-driven development.
The forum was also attended by Miao Xi, a member of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, as well as Peng Limin, a standing member of the municipal party committee. Their presence underscored the government's strong support for the automotive industry's future direction and its role in driving regional economic growth.
With the global automotive landscape evolving rapidly, especially with the rise of electric vehicles and smart mobility, Hubei's industry must adapt quickly. By focusing on innovation, strengthening local brands, and fostering collaboration, the region is well-positioned to play a more significant role in China's broader automotive strategy.
