On August 31, the first 120,000-ton-per-year gas fractionation unit of the Fujian Refining and Ethylene Project successfully completed its intermediate transfer, marking a major milestone as the project officially entered the installation phase. This achievement represents a significant step forward in the development of one of China's most advanced petrochemical complexes.
The gas fractionation unit was officially launched on January 18 this year. Throughout the project, the IPMT team meticulously planned and coordinated every detail. The EPC contractor faced numerous challenges, including tight deadlines, complex engineering requirements, and adverse weather conditions. Despite these obstacles, the project was completed in just five months, setting a new benchmark for efficiency in gas separation plant construction.
Fujian United Petrochemical Company began full operations on June 12. By the end of July, it had processed a total of 496,500 tons of crude oil. The successful operation of the 120,000-ton-per-year gas fractionation unit is a key driver for increasing production of propylene and polypropylene, two essential raw materials for the company’s downstream products, and will significantly contribute to overall profitability.
Currently, the newly built refining units of the Fujian Refining and Ethylene Project are in the installation stage. Major equipment has already been lifted into place, and the foundational work for the main facilities of the polypropylene and polyethylene plants is largely complete. Construction of buildings and steel structures is progressing well, while the foundation work for the ethylene and IGCC plants is nearing completion. Equipment foundations are being installed across the site, and tank installations in the utility area are moving forward smoothly.
Meanwhile, the Qinglanshan 300,000-ton crude oil terminal continues its construction, with bridge decks, box girders, and steel structures under active development. Additionally, tanks No. 1 and No. 3, each with a capacity of 150,000 cubic meters, have been fully completed, further supporting the project’s long-term operational goals.
